Update to the induction_tutor_email attribute on GET partnerships and GET schools endpoints

Production release Sandbox release

We’ve updated the induction_tutor_email attribute on the GET partnerships endpoint and GET schools endpoint so that it’s populated more consistently.

What’s changed

Where no induction tutor email address is available from register early career teachers (RECT) records, induction_tutor_email will now be populated with the school’s main email address held in GIAS.

Previously, this field could be empty if no induction tutor was recorded.

Note that the field will be null if a call is made to the GET schools endpoint by a provider who has not had an expression of interest from the school.

Why we’ve made this change

Although schools with provider partnerships or expressions of interest are expected to have an induction tutor, there are rare situations where this is not recorded.

This change ensures that providers still have a contact email for the school. This will help to reduce the need for manual follow-up and improving continuity of communication.

Who this applies to

This change affects API consumers using the GET partnerships endpoint or GET schools endpoint, particularly training providers who rely on induction tutor contact details.

What you need to do

No action is required. However, you should:

  • be aware that the induction_tutor_email might contain a general school email address
  • consider how you handle this in your systems if you distinguish between personal and generic contact emails
